About our certified organic wild Maine blueberries
Generations of blueberry lovers have appreciated the quality and taste of wild blueberries from the fields at Peace and Plenty Farm, in the High Peaks region of western Maine. Over nine varieties of low-bush blueberries grow naturally and abundantly in our fields, but the predominant variety is “Canadian Sourtop”, valued by chefs and foodies for its bright, stay-in-your-mouth flavor and well known health benefits.
In 2001 we made a commitment to keep the fields open and our blueberries available to our neighbors. Our fields were certified organic by the Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association on September 11 of that year.
Nine years later, we continue to hand-harvest a limited supply each August with the help of young farming apprentices through WWoof-USA. The berries are winnowed clean right at the field, then bagged and frozen within hours of being picked.
